Approaches & Services: Motivational Interviewing

This process focuses on identifying necessary behavioral changes. We must recognize our own resistance to change, which often serves as our greatest roadblock, and we seek to eliminate these negative patterns of thinking. Motivational interviewing is a directive, client-centered style of counseling that aims to:

  • Identify what motivates clients in order to make lasting changes

  • Encourage clients who have resolved to make behavioral changes

  • Help develop self-discipline to avoid relapse

  • Support independent decision-making
